AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS Firmware

Different motherboard manufacturers have announced the AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS Firmware for AMD 500 and 400 lines of motherboards which is planned to roll out soon to the motherboards. The latest AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS Firmware for AMD 400 and 500 series motherboards adds improved compatibility for Ryzen CPUs and addresses few bugs that appeared in the earlier releases.

MSI and ASUS have announced the AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS firmware for all of their AMD 500 and 400 series motherboards and the bios update is coming in January which will bring many compatibility and stability updates to the platform.

The improvements both MSI and ASUS have listed mention optimized support and compatibility for Ryzen 5000 Desktop CPUs and added Resizable-BAR functionality with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 series and AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphic cards.

The AMD AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS firmware has the following highlighting features.

  • Optimized and support AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors.
  • Optimized Resizable BAR (Re-Size BAR) function with NVidia Graphics cards.
  • Improved AM4 processor compatibility

The new bios also fixes an issue which the system hanged during CPU post. The support for AMD Curve Optimizer will be brought forward from the previous AGESA 1.1.9.0 BIOS Firmware.

MSI has released a press release for the bios in which the company says:

MSI, the world-leading gaming motherboard brand, is going to release the latest AGESA COMBO PI V2 1.2.0.0 BIOS for AMD 500 series and 400 series motherboards, including MAX and non-MAX models.

MSI’s plan is to release the new  BIOS Firmware first for their X570, B550, A520 motherboards alongside the older X470 and B450 MAX series in January. The update for its X470 and B450 motherboards is expected in February 2021. ASUS hasn’t provided dates for the bios release so we will have to keep an eye on when ASUS will drop the bios to its motherboards.
