Anthem Combat Guide

Below we have detailed all the aspects of advanced combat in Anthem. The list contains the combat techniques that you can apply in your combat style using combos, teamwork, and gear loadouts.

Combo Attacks

Before you can begin taking on challenging opponents in the game, it is best that you fully understand your Javelin capabilities. Learning how you Javelin works, and how it movement can complement your weapon attacks can lead you devasting combos on your opponents.

The right combination of moves and attacks can be very efficient way to take down enemies, and are absolutely necessary in taking down tougher enemies that are agile in their own attacks.

There are three key elements to understand on how you can perform combos:

  1. The first thing to have is a primer. This is an attack that primes the enemy in different types of states, depending on what primer you use. There is ice, fire, electric or acid.
  2. The second is the detonator, where this is the triggering mechanism for releasing a combo. Any player that lands the detonator first will trigger the combo.
  3. The third is that once the detonator has been triggered, you will need to prime the enemy again before you can perform another combo.

Priming lower level enemies is easy, but the challenge is when you have to prime a shielded enemy that require more elemental damage. Once you have primed an enemy, the detonator ability will trigger the combo. The resulting effect will vary depending on the Javelin that you use:

  • Ranger: deals extra bonus damage to a single target on top of your ability
  • Colossus: Deals extra bonus damage to all targets in proximity
  • Interceptor: inherit an aura based on the status applied to the enemy
  • Storm: Elemental debuff is spread to all targets nearby

Teamwork

Planning out your encounters to play to your squad’s strengths is key in advanced combat of Anthem. When taking on harder difficulty Strongholds, your brute force alone will not be enough to conquer them.

With your squad you can communication to line up the perfect combo, cover team mate that are under fire, or use your key abilities to create openings that can enable other team mates to go for high damage attacks.

As an example. The Storm Javelin can prime groups of enemies, while Interceptor can dive in with the opportunity to trigger combos with the double-bladed daggers. Similarly, the Colossus can use Battle Cry to dray enemy fire and open up flanking chances for other team mates.

Loadouts and Gear

When you have reached level cap, and when you are looking into taking on Strongholds and Legendary Contracts. You will unlock the remaining difficulties: Grandmaster 1,2 and 3. These higher difficulty levels offer you the chances to get rare gear and essentials that can help you build loadouts to boost your power levels and offer a lot of other bonuses.

As you may know, gear comes in six difference rarities; Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Masterwork, Legendary. Each tier offers you greater power than the previous. Meanwhile, rarer fear also comes with inscriptions, randomly rolled stat boost and bonuses that can enhance your build.

In search for the perfect gear, it will take a good amount of your time. Keep in mind that there is no perfect build that can serve all your needs. This is where you need to have multiple loadouts saved for different type of combat requirements.

Save multiple types of loadouts at the Forge. This will allow you to swap them out quickly when you are about to head out. Maintaining a deep bench of loadouts for specific situations can come in very handy, so its best to save a variety of them and experiment with your abilities to find new ways to conquer even the toughest enemies.

Crafting Gear

In Anthem, not every weapon of piece of gear is exactly that will meet your demands. You can keep searching for the perfect piece, or you can craft it. dismantle gear that you no longer need, or explore the word for nodes that can be harvested for crafting materials.

With the appropriate materials, you can craft the item you need. Completing challenges give you blueprints, which can be tracked in the menu. You can additionally read out Anthem Crafting Guide to get a better understanding of how crafting works in the game.
