Taking Care of the Barrier
The most annoying aspect of the Axe Nemesis is the shield that the boss comes with right from the start. Unless you take out the barrier, you cannot damage the boss itself. For getting rid of the barrier, you must use the Arm Legion and the Gladius Sword. Keep attacking the barrier and it will go down eventually. However, during this phase, the boss will keep attacking you so you must be ready to evade the incoming attacks while making sure that you are dishing out damage on the barrier.
If you want to remove the barrier from a safe distance and do not want to get close until the barrier is still around the boss, you can use your Arm Legion to pick up and throw one glowing crystal at the boss. This is a very risky move however one throw will take care of the barrier and you can then return to dealing damage to the actual boss.
Post-Barrier Battle
Once the barrier is gone, you can switch easily to Sword or Beast Legion. Coming to your own weapon, you must switch to the normal X-Baton. These switches are important because these are very fast and will allow you to land some quick attacks and combos on the boss. The combos are also much better with these options allowing for a greater damage-dealing prospect.
Some of the boss attacks that you should avoid during this fight include the Axe Plummet and the Spinning Attack. When the boss is planning to land the Axe Plummet, the boss will ready a glowing axe by placing it on the ground and then strikes it making it explode and causing a huge explosion on the spot. The attack itself deals quite a lot of damage if it hits you. The Spinning Attack is much easier to see.
The boss will start spinning in its place and will then quickly move towards your location still spinning. You cannot attack the boss while it is spinning so your best bet is to keep rolling here and there to avoid the boss until it stops spinning and resumes his normal attack stance. It will also place the sword on the ground and numerous landing spots will appear on the ground. Avoid these spots because the incoming boss attack will deal damage on the highlighted spots.
You can also use the Beast Legion to dig out a spot and make it safe to stand on. The Whirlwind attack starts when the boss jumps high in the air and comes plummeting down to the ground which results in a whirlwind. Beast Legion also comes handy in this scenario. These are the major attacks that you must try to avoid at all costs and keep switching between the Legions and Weapons to deal damage to the boss at the same time. It will go down eventually.
