Century: Age of Ashes is an upcoming fighting game where you play as a dragoneer flying around on huge dragons, fighting with other players online. A technical test for the game is currently running and if you have access to it, then you can jump in the action and try out your skill behind huge beasts in the sky. Since Century: Age of Ashes is a unique online multiplayer title with its own unique controls and mechanics, we have some tips and tricks for you in this Century: Age of Ashes Beginner’s Guide that will help you get better at the game.
Beginner’s Guide – Century: Age of Ashes
Our Century: Age of Ashes Beginner’s Guide details everything that you need to know about playing Century: Age of Ashes for the very first time.
Use Air Braking
While flying around on your dragon, you must understand that braking plays a vital role in gaining an edge while someone is hunting you. Most of the times, you will continue to fly ahead of your enemies and will end up dying but if you learn the proper use of braking while flying, chances are that the enemies will not see it coming and you can quickly get behind them as they fly past you in full speed. The default key for braking is LT if playing with an Xbox One controller on PC and using LT your dragon will quickly stop and fly on a single stop.
Once you are stopped, you can quickly turn around and even use air braking to fool your opponents into thinking that you are turning around but instead you can just fly inside a cave or a tunnel at a sharp 90-degree angle as well to avoid their attacks and fire. However, one thing you must keep in mind while braking is that make sure that there are no projectiles inbound because since projectiles are homing, they will be following you around unless you dodge them successfully, stopping dead in their path will only mean that they will hit you instead so always use braking with a good understanding of your surroundings to make the most out of it.
Don’t Spam Fire Balls
I know that it looks cool to just fire all of the fireballs in quick succession behind your enemies and then you just sit there and pray that all of them hit your enemies but a more effective way at firing at your enemies is that you must fire one or a max of two fireballs at your enemies and then wait until they land their target. Each game has multiple enemies so never waste all your fireballs behind just one enemy.
After three of four shots, there is a cooldown and your dragon will recharge all the available shots so if another enemy swoops in with you recharging all of your fireballs, you will be left with nothing to protect if all of your abilities are charging. Always wait and see if you can really land attacks on your enemies especially when it comes to special abilities. Always keep one Fireball handy because it is your most effective long to short-range attack and can easily kill enemies with low health in just one hit.
Always Keep an Eye on Your Stamina
Your stamina is represented by the four bars at the lower center of the screen and every time you boost, one of these bars is dropped. You get four boost bars before you must find a recharge. You can recharge your boost by flying into the blue zones in the water which are called energy rifts and they will recharge your stamina. Make sure you fly in these rifts for long enough that all of your stamina is recharged.
Similar to fireballs, you should try to better manage your stamina as well. Use it only when you really need to and must try your best to not waste it. Stamina is best used when chasing after enemies or tight turns in order to dodge incoming attacks. If you keep on using it randomly, chances are then when you are chasing after an enemy or trying to dodge incoming fireballs, you will have none or low stamina. For normal movements, you can just press RT for acceleration instead of using the boost all the time.
Choose Your Class Carefully
During the technical test and Early Access launch later in April, Century: Age of Ashes will have three unique classes for you to play with. These include Phantom, Windguard and Marauder. Each class is unique and come with their own abilities, strengths and weaknesses. For your initial battles, I will suggest that you try all three of the classes since they are unlocked right from the start and you do not have to buy them separately. Try out all three classes and then decide for the class that you feel most comfortable playing with.
Their abilities are suited for players with different playstyles. Marauder is an assault class, Phantom is a stealth class while Windguard is a defense class. Each class has two main abilities apart from different general abilities. You can only choose between one of these class abilities for a game so basically, you have three classes with six unique abilities, two belong to each class. You can try them all out and if you need more information with each of these classes, make sure that you check out our detailed class guides on Phantom, WindGuard, and Marauder. Additional classes and abilities will arrive later in the game as updates.
