Chivalry 2 Combat Guide – Attacking, Parry Attacks, How to Counter Attack

Chivalry 2 Combat Guide

This Chivalry 2 Combat Guide will show you how combat works in the game, how you should attack, defend, parry, and then counter-attack enemies. Combat in Chivalry 2 puts emphasis on 1v1 combat, just like in the old medieval times, fighting with swords, shields, arrows, and lances.

Combat from the first-person view makes it a more authentic combat experience where you actually get to fight like in the old times as knights and warriors. Slicing with swords with light and heavy combat is the basic way to fight, but mixing them with parries, knowing when to counter, and having a good defensive strategy is what will always keep you at an advantage.

Below we have detailed how combat works in the game.

Attacking

Attacking in Chivalry 2 is more than just going in headfirst and trying to hit the enemy. While you may get the initial hit, it is not the most effective way to fight 1v1. This may end up very badly for you if you don’t strategize your hits, wait for the opponent and try to read their motives and attacking intentions.

Attacking with a few nicely timed hits, but then backing off to let the opponent swing their hits is a very smart move. This is because you should expect the enemy to hit you as soon as they see you, but letting them swing and missing their shots puts you in the best spot to finish them with heavy hits and combos.

The best way to attack is to defend. Knowing your defensive moves like carrying a shield, dodging, and parrying is what makes your attacks even stronger. With more practice and 1v1 experience, you will not only learn to attack enemies but also attack smartly.

Playing in the first-person view and then keeping your crosshair on the target will have you killed in no time. This is because your melee attacks need to land effectively. Swinging with your head locked on the target will almost certainly miss your sword strikes, however, swinging your head with the swing of the sword will rotate your body with the swing, landing the hit perfectly on the target. Each time you swing, try to rotate your body in the direction of the swing.

Defense/Blocking

There are a few different techniques with defending. These are blocking your attacks with weapons and shields, parrying. Depending on the type of attack, the type of equipment you have, these will help you deflect many if not just the main attack the opponent throws at you.

Blocking or parrying play a major role in finding you an opening for a counter-attack, while also keeping the enemy in check if they come up with multiple attacks or combos. In addition, you also have to keep in mind that you won’t just be fighting 1v1 at all times. You will find more than one opponent charging at you especially if they have the Initiative.

While fighting one enemy gives you more time to focus and premeditate the enemy’s attacks, combating a couple or more targets at once will have you on the back foot at all times. Blocking with a weapon or with a shield keeps you safe, but drains your stamina. Each blocked hit eats away a chunk of stamina and if you let the stamina bar deplete completely, your character with drop their weapon, rendering you disarmed. At this point, you are just a sitting duck and all you can do is run away if you can.

This is where you need to strategize your defense, know when to attack, and think of the best outcome when fighting multiple enemies. Parrying is the best way to counter-attack, but your positioning in the fight is what matters against multiple targets. If you get surrounded by more than a couple of enemies from all sides, your only choice left would be to go for a horizontal sword slash. Be careful of your teammates, as you do not want them to be caught in your attack.

Parrying

As we have mentioned before, parrying sets you up for the best counterattack against the enemy. When you see an enemy lunging at you with an attack, press block or shield yourself from the attack. If you are successful in your parry, this will set you up with the perfect moment to counterattack and hit the enemy with a riposte.

Riposte is a fast attack, which only happens in a small window after a successful parry. Riposte will encourage you to go for your own hits rather than just defending incoming attacks, only waiting for your stamina to run out and be vulnerable.

Feinting

Chivalry 2 now comes with a revised feinting mechanism where you can switch to another attach midway in your initial attack, throwing the opponent off by playing mind games. This not only gives you a unique way to dupe the opponent and get a juicy slashing hit but also keeps the opponent guessing what your next move is going to be.

Feinting is pretty easy to perform, where you can quickly switch to another attack just after you initiate the first attack. This works with the opponent expecting the first move to hit, but switching completely opens him up for a quick slash elsewhere on his body.
