After the announcement that Metro Exodus is going to be a one year timed exclusive on Epic Games Store, angry fans have taken matters in their own hands and are review bombing previous titles in the Metro franchise.
After the publisher’s decision to move to Epic Games Store, the Steam page for Metro Exodus was removed and fans are clearly not happy on the decision. Metro Exodus will return to Steam but after one complete year and fans do not want that.
In response to this decision, fans are now taking out their frustration on previously released Metro titles which include Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux. Both of these titles are amazing and they had really good scores in the past on Steam.
Due to the current negative review-bombing, this rating has turned into ‘Mostly Negative’ which is a developers’ worst nightmare on a major platform such as Steam. Along with the decision to move to Epic Games Store, it was announced that all Steam pre-orders will be honored and players will be given Steam keys for the title.
However, the physical pre-order owners are not as lucky as it was announced recently that all physical pre-orders will come with an Epic Games Store code instead of Steam codes which fans are considering as fraud and misleading information to sell a product.
This is now becoming a trend where players take to Steam and start review-bombing titles if the developers take an action which is not in their favor. Last victim of review bombing on Steam was Rainbow Six Siege.
It happened when Ubisoft announced that they are planning to reduce certain violent aspects of the game so that it can pass into Asian markets. Fans took it in their own hands and review bombed Rainbow Six Siege on Steam which led to Ubisoft changing their decision.
With the current case of Metro Exodus, I have my doubts whether 4A Games and Deep Silver will change their decision now that the game is less than 15 days away and the deal has already been signed with Epic Games Store.
Earlier Valve had also issued a statement and said that the move is ‘unfair’ and Deep Silver and 4A Games used Steam as a store front to sell and then removed the product later on close to release.
Metro Exodus is slated for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC via Epic Games Store on February 15, 2019.
