Fun VR Stacking Game Does It Stack? Announced for Meta Quest

Does It Stack

Game developer Cybernetic Walrus, in collaboration with Meta, has announced the upcoming release of their physics-based tower-building game, Does It Stack?, for Meta Quest 2 and 3. The exciting reveal took place at the UploadVR showcase, unveiling a range of major new features including mixed reality, local co-op, online leaderboards, daily challenges, and more.

Does It Stack? offers players the unique opportunity to create ridiculous towers by stacking a variety of items atop one another. The challenge lies in the seemingly impossible task of balancing objects such as toy cars with a bicycle on top, or a fish on a bowling ball. Players need to be cautious, though—if two objects of the same color touch, they explode, adding a thrilling element of risk to the game. The question remains: can you keep your tower standing without causing a heart a-stack? Pun intended!

The game, which is currently available on Steam and Applab, will retain access for existing users as the former free version is retired. While new users won’t be able to obtain the old version, everyone is encouraged to explore the new content once it becomes available.

One of the standout features of Does It Stack? is the mixed-reality AR mode, which allows players to start stacking anywhere in their real-world environment. This mode brings a new level of interaction, enabling players to throw virtual objects around their actual living spaces, turning their living rooms into dynamic game arenas perfect for family game nights. The integration with Meta’s People app further enhances the multiplayer experience, allowing players to connect with friends using voice chat.

Does It Stack? also offers a variety of game modes to suit different play styles. The Daily Challenge mode pits players around the world against each other with the same set of objects, creating a level playing field for global competition. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, Sandbox Mode allows players to choose their favorite objects from a robust catalog and get creative in both solo and co-op play.

Key features of Does It Stack? include:

  • 60 levels, each with 3 challenges, totaling 180 challenges
  • 150 unlockable objects
  • Mixed reality AR support
  • Local co-op and multiplayer options for playing with friends and family
  • Online leaderboards to compete for the highest tower scores
  • Daily challenges for dedicated puzzle enthusiasts

Players will have access to various tools to aid in their stacking endeavors, such as:

  • Recolor: Allows objects to be painted in different colors
  • Glue: Sticks objects together
  • Squeezer: Stretches and squeezes objects into different shapes

Does It Stack? is the ultimate co-op physics-based puzzle game, giving players wild, variety-filled stacking challenges to complete with their friends,” said Kasper Geeroms, game designer at Cybernetic Walrus. “It’s the perfect way to satisfy your primal stacking urge right in your living room. And by harnessing the power of Meta Quest 2 & 3, we were able to create something that takes all the tactile physics-based suspense of classic stacking games and removes all the pesky cleanup that comes with reality!”
