Google Stadia is a hot topic right now and people have been wondering what happens to their games and progress if the of the developer stops supporting it. This is a genuine concern.
Google’s vice president and head of Stadia, Phil Harrison touched on the topic. He mentioned that down the line, if games are not supported by developers then they will still be accessible and progress will be intact.
What if a developer or publisher no longer has the rights to sell a game to new players? Harrison talked about that as well. Here is what he had to say regarding the matter:
Now, there may be – as we’ve seen in the past – there may be times where a developer or publisher no longer has the rights to sell to new players. That would mean that the game will not be available to new players, but it will continue to be available for existing players.
The bottom line here is what if you have bought the game then you will be able to play it. You will be able to access the game and saved date even a developer has stopped supporting the title or if the developer or publisher no longer has the rights to sell the game.
This might put some fans at east but interestingly not many people are interested in cloud gaming services like Google Stadia or Project xCloud. According to a survey, only 15% of gamers in Europe are interested in services like these.
Out of the 15%, 12% are already using subscription services such as PlayStation Now and GeForce Now. This could be because people are interested in owning video games rather than “renting” them.
It will be interesting to see how well Google Stadia does this year and whether or not people are interested in playing games on it at launch.
Let us know what you think about Google Stadia and whether or not you are interested in playing games on the platform.
