There is a lot of hype around Google Stadia and what we saw at the demo was indeed impressive but it seems that people are not the only ones that are skeptical about the technology. Microsoft talked about Google Stadia and mentioned that the platform does not have the content. While Google does have the infrastructure, it is not going to be worth much if you can play a wide variety of games on it.
Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer for Xbox Mike Nichols mentioned that players will have a better experience on console as compared to streaming. The following is what he had to say in this regard:
Emerging competitors like Google have a cloud infrastructure, a community with YouTube, but they don’t have the content. You won’t necessarily need a device over time, but you’ll get the best experience with local processing power.
There are others that think that the Google Stadia and streaming is the future and that this is going to hurt companies like Sony and Microsoft so bad that they might stop making consoles after the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Anaconda. Cristiano Amon, the president of Qualcomm mentioned the following about streaming:
There’s no question – in our view – that the cloud is the new console. You are just gonna start playing on any device, on any screen. That is going to be the future of gaming.
Both sides have a valid argument but we will have to see what Google Stadia has to offer. It there is no lag and the gaming experience is seamless then this could be the next best thing but if not then consoles are here to stay. The platform is going to release later this year so we will find out soon enough.
Let us know what you think about Google Stadia and whether you would quit gaming on consoles or PC in favor of streaming/
