Google Stadia game streaming platform was just announced by Google and the company has promised us 4K 60 FPS. The major question that people had was what kind of internet need you would need in order to run games. Now the Google Stadia internet requirement has been revealed and it is not too high.
Stadia boss Phil Harrison talked about the Google Stadia internet requirement and he mentioned that you will need 30Mbps internet in order to stream at 4K 60 FPS. This seems pretty reasonable even for developing countries where the internet is not all that fast. The following is what he had to say about the Google Stadia internet requirement:
For our [Stadia] launch this year, we have made some very significant improvements in our streamer, our codecs, our hardware and software services, which means we can get to 4K 60fps at around 30mbps. 30mbps doesn’t exclude a huge segment of the population. We think we can reach a very significant part of the world with that kind of performance.
Not only did he talk about the Google Stadia internet requirement he also mentioned that he is not working on a console and that there will be no console in the future either. He stressed on this fact and mentioned that Google Stadia is not a next-generation product but a new generation product. The following is what he had to say in this regard:
We are absolutely firm that we are not, will not, and will never release a console. [Stadia is] a new generation platform, rather than a next-generation platform. I think that’s a really exciting moment for the industry. The whole world isn’t going to shift to that new model overnight, and it will take time for us to realize every aspect of the promise. But it’s a fundamental and, I passionately believe, an inevitable and one-way direction that the industry is moving
The industry is indeed moving towards streaming. We have heard Phil Spencer talk about streaming from Microsoft and we have also spotted streaming for the upcoming PS5 in recent leaks. This is all very interesting and the future seems to be based in the cloud for gaming.
I hope that Google can be the one to finally crack this and deliver latency-free game streaming. You can learn more about the platform in our in-depth article. You can also check out how great Doom Eternal runs on the platform. Since Stadia requires a steady and powerful Internet connection, you can test your internet speed to ensure that you will be able to run Google Stadia properly.
Let us know what you think about the Google Stadia internet requirement and whether or not you have access to this sort of internet speed.
