Clockwork Aquario will release on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as limited physical editions. Apart from the physical release, the game will also release digitally on both PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop. Apart from these two platforms for the initial release, additional platforms will be announced further down the road. With additional platforms, more players will be able to experience this lost arcade gem.

Development of Clockwork Aquario started way back in 1992 and is the last arcade game ever developed by the legendary company Westone. It was originally designed by the chief publisher and co-founder of Westone, Ryuichi Nishizawa, and is described as the swan song of a company that was part of an era with some excellent titles such as Wonder Boy and Monster World series. Featuring Large character sprites, beautiful animations, and vibrant colors, the game has everything an arcade game fan could dream of.

However, it arrived at a time when most arcades were playing 1990s 3D games and fighting games were booming everywhere. Because of this very reason, 2D titles with beautiful hand-drawn visuals such as Clockwork Aquario were no longer in demand in nearly all of the arcade centers. Because of this, Clockwork Aquario was never released back then however thanks to ININ Games and Strictly Limited Games, this is about to change.

Speaking on the new release, Ryuichi Nishizawa commented:

In the 90s, when game centers were dominated by fighting games, there was one title which had never been released, even though it was completed after more than two years of development and repeated changes. This title is Clockwork Aquario. Who would have thought that it would be restored and playable again? I would like to express my heartfelt respect and gratitude to those who have worked so hard to restore it. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that this work is a great piece of 2D art, where the pixel artists of that time put their hearts and souls into. I’d be happy if people would appreciate and enjoy it.

It is a classic side-scrolling action game that you can play alone or with a friend in co-op. You choose from the three different characters in the game who each come with their own unique moveset. You have the Huck Londo, the daring ghost hunter, Elle Moon, the brave adventures, and Gush, the warmhearted giant robot. For more details about the game, you can check out the official website and also download some free wallpapers for your phone and PC.
