The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Announced for a 2021 Release

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum 2022

Daedalic Entertainment has announced a new narrative-focused adventure game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum for a 2021 release. The new title set in the world of The Lord of the Rings will revolve around Gollum from the movie franchise. We have seen Gollum appear in previous games set in the TLOR universe however this time, the entire game will be centered on Gollum.

The title will be based purely on Tolkien’s books and will tell us the story between Gollum’s finding of the One Ring and the start of The Lord of the Rings. According to the deal signed between Daedalic Entertainment and Middle-earth Enterprises, this will be the first title in a series of many. More games are also in plans and will be revealed later.

Daedalic’s CEO and co-founder, Carsten Fichtelmann, while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter said that the main reason behind choosing Gollum as the lead character for this game is:

You already have that big conflict in the character, two voices talking to you continuously, which means there is a good reason there are decisions to make in the game: the Smeagol decisions or the Gollum decision.

While speaking with Daily Star, Fichtelmann also stated that:

Since this is a game about Gollum, if you imagine gameplay, stealth is the obvious choice as opposed to combat with a sword.

This is surely going to be an interesting take on the franchise because the last two titles based on The Lord of the Rings were very much the same and according to Fichtelmann, Tolkien estate wanted a company for the next title who could create something that is more focused on the story rather than action.

We will share any more information that comes out about the new title. Keep checking back for more on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be released in 2021 on consoles and PC.
