New 13-Inch MacBook Pro, Air Might Feature Apple Silicon

Apple has officially announced their next unveil event ‘One More Thing’ and it will take place on November 10 and it is rumored that Apple will be revealing its ARM-based MacBook models in that event. It has been rumored for months that the new portable Macs that will be treated to the Apple Silicon will be the 12-inch MacBook, followed by the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

However, new information reveals that Apple has changed its plan and now the 13-inch MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro will be the new first to feature Apple Silicon. Well-known leaker L0vetodream tweeted out a cryptic tweet shortly after Apple made their event announcement and the tweet points to two new 13-inch versions of the MacBook pro.

The new MacBook Air may sport a custom 8-core ARM chip that is near-identical to the upcoming A14X Bionic chip in the upcoming iPad Pro models. While the 13-inch MacBook Pro might get treated to a more powerful 12-core chipset, meaning that it should perform slightly better than the 13-inch MacBook Air.

The previous performance estimates have pegged the A14X Bionic to be as fast as the most powerful chip found in the 16-inch MacBook Pro, which is an Intel 8-core Core i9 CPU. All these are rumors at this point and should be taken with a grain of salt.

There are also rumors of Apple previewing a desktop-class chip ‘A14T’ which is rumored to be based on TSMC’s 5nm architecture and catered for the upcoming iMac. Apple has been working closely with TSMC and its 5nm architecture, the same architecture used to make the A14 Bionic and the same processing node will likely be used to develop the two Apple Silicon variants.

Along with new Macs, it’s also likely that the event will see the launch of macOS 11 Big Sur, which was also announced at WWDC and has been in beta for months.
