An Indie Developer Announces Dark Souls Like Game Mortal Shell

Review Mortal Shell

Indie developer Cold Symmetry has just announced a Dark Souls type game called Mortal Shell. The announcement was made with a trailer that reveals how inspired the game is by Dark Souls. The game is an action-RPG that is set in a dark fantasy world with the same combat system like in Dark Souls.

Take a look at the announcement trailer below:

Mortal Shell’s deep progression system will test your sanity and resilience in this shattered world. The trailer features the dark and haunting worlds occupied by the menacing enemies that come in all sizes and forms. Another feature of the game is that you as a player will be wearing the empty shells of dead soldiers and using their abilities and combat style to fight with the enemies.

This means that each shell will play differently, however, any shell that you may like can be upgraded further to make it better and can be paired with better weapons to fight bosses and enemies alike.

According to Cold Symmetry, the game has been in development for over two years now, while the team behind the game consists of 15 people. In a joint statement by the co-founders Andrew McLennan-Murray, Anton Gonzalez, and Vitaly Bulgarov,

For a small team like ours, developing this title in many ways felt like crossing an ocean on a paddleboard. To finally announce Mortal Shell is one of the most exciting and terrifying experiences we’ve had in our lifetimes. The last two years have been a time of non-stop growth, full of shocking revelations of sheer complexity that goes into creating a video game that you, yourself, would really enjoy playing.

There has been no confirmation about the release date of the game, however, we do know that it will be available on both PC and consoles. The PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC will all be getting a release sometime this year.
