Beginner’s Guide – Mortal Shell
Our Mortal Shell Beginner’s Guide details everything that you need to know about starting Mortal Shell and being at the top of your game.
Do Not Rush the Game
Since Mortal Shell takes heavy inspiration from Dark Souls franchise, it means that you have to use pretty much the same strategies here as well and one of these core strategies is to take your sweet time with the game especially when it comes to combat. You have to take your time with Mortal Shell and never rush when it comes to exploration or fighting enemies. You must understand your environment, get comfortable with it, and then tackle the enemies because the enemies hit hard and you will need all the space around you to fight them. So going slow and steady is much better than going in fast and dying equally fast.
Find Items and Use Them
If you’ve been playing Dark Souls franchise for a long time, you will be pretty much familiar with the fact that items play a major role in playing the game. The same is the case with Mortal Shells. You find plenty of items in Mortal Shell however until Dark Souls, items are plenty in Mortal Shell and even if you consume them quickly, you will find them in different places much easily. Because of this easy-availability, you must use and consume items when you really need them because there is no shortage in the game.
Get Comfortable in Fullgrim Tower Quickly
Your main hub in Mortal Shell is Fullgrim Towers and you will be coming back here a lot for different tasks and activities. You will come back here to perform basic activities such as swapping shells, switching out weapons and gear, and many other basic tasks as well. You will find different merchants here as well that will upgrade your Shells or sell you new equipment. One of the key things that this place holds is that you get access to different dungeons or shortcuts via Fullgrim Tower as well.
As you continue to explore the tower, you will find a lot of secret boxes and chests with items and other cool gear so make sure that you explore this brilliant place thoroughly. Make sure that as you continue to get better in combat, you explore the dungeons and weapon shrines to get new gear. These weapons are not easy to acquire as you will face deadly enemies, traps, and dangerous areas in order to access them. All of these areas are accessible through Fullgrim Tower.
Speak with NPCs
The world of Mortal Shell might be filled with weird creatures, huge monsters, and deadly enemies but you will often find sane NPCs in different areas as well. Some of these NPCs will help you in various ways such as items, upgrades, or merchant services but some of them will help you understand more about the story and lore of the game. There are not many friendly faces in Mortal Shell but when you find some, make sure that you always peak with them for some lore or any other useful information about the game. Make sure you meet the easily missable vendor at the top of the tower who sells you one of the only ranged weapons in the game.
Pick Your Shell Carefully
There are four unique Shells or in easy terms, characters to choose for your journey in Mortal Shell. You start your game with a Foundling who is extremely weak and fragile. Pretty soon, you are introduced to the concepts of Shells where your Foundling can possess the bodies of defeated warriors and become much more powerful. Each of these shells is unique in their attributes so you can pick the one that suits your playstyle. Apart from the first shell, the later three Shells focus on defense, resolve, and speed. Pick any one of these that suits your gameplay the most.
Remember Key Locations and Markers
The world of Mortal Shell is not easy to remember as it is a labyrinth of paths, underground areas, and tunnel-like snakey pathways. Mortal Shell does not offer any sort of map so you are on your own to find your way back or forward. While exploration is key, you might end up in locations where you do not want to be if you do not remember the way back home. Always keep an eye out for different key markers or landmarks to memorize the area quickly so that you can quickly navigate the world of Mortal Shell.
