Sony has released a new firmware update for the PS5 which addresses the PS4 game installation issues many users were facing on their consoles. The new firmware update, versioned 20.02-02.50.00, addresses the issue where the PS4 version of the game would sometimes be installed even when the user has already upgraded to the PS5 version of the game.
The new firmware update improves the system performance, but exact details are absent. However, the release notes for this new system update do mention that it resolves an issue where the PS4 game version was installed from a disc, even after upgrading the game to the PlayStation 5 version. As such, players should no longer be forced to remove the wrongly installed PS4 version in order to install the correct, upgraded, PS5 version of games.
This is the first firmware update for the PlayStation 5 since December 9th, which solved PS4 data transfer issues, as well as WiFi connectivity problems, on top of some tweaks to the PS5’s DualSense controller. The 20.02-02.50.00 is the fourth firmware update since the PS5’s launch back in November. Below are the completer PS5 System Update 20.02-02.50.00 patch notes released by Sony.

Since its launch on November 12 and the end of December 2020, the PS5 sold 4.5 million units. Sony previously said that this was its biggest console launch ever. By the end of March 2021, the platform holder hopes to shift a total of 7.5 million units, which would mean the hardware selling faster than the PS4 did. We will have to wait and see what lies in the coming here for PS5 and Sony.
