According to a new report, a Nintendo is going to reveal a new model of the Nintendo Switch console which will feature a Samsung OLED display on the portable console, while a 4K graphics when using it in docked mode.
In a report by Bloomberg, it was also revealed that the new version of the console will come with a larger touchscreen. The report follows this up by revealing that Samsung Display Co. will start the mass production of the 7 inch touchscreen display with 720p OLED panels, where the production will start as early as June of this year, while the shipment to the assemblers will begin in July.
This will be a massive upgrade from the current Nintendo switch which has a liquid-crystal display as opposed to the OLED, which consumes less battery. The current console has the same 720p resolution but the 4K graphics output using the docked mode is a huge upgrade.
Yoshio Tamura, co-founder of display consultancy DSCC had this to say,
The OLED panel will consume less battery, offer higher contrast and possibly faster response time when compared to the Switch’s current liquid-crystal display
Granted this is not the first time a more powerful version of the Nintendo Switch has been rumored. But this comes from a credible source which also states that both Nintendo and Samsung have declined to comment on the matter. It is high time that an advanced or pro version of the Nintendo Switch is announced as consoles are shifting to higher and better graphics, targeting 4K/60fps gaming experience for players.
The new report conflicts with Nintendo’s claims last month where it mentioned that the company has no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model in 2020. Instead, the company wanted to promote the recently released Nintendo Switch Lite over the course of 2020.
2020 can be a year of surprises as far as the new Nintendo Switch is concerned. Whether or not Nintendo plans to reveal the new console by the end of this year is too early to say. A rumor at this stage does make it sound hopeful, but all we can do is wait for any such confirmation by Nintendo itself.
