Rumors have started piling up about Nvidia’s next line of RTX cards, GeForce RTX 3000 series, which are said to be coming out in late August. It is speculated that the announcement will be made at Gamescom which will take place digitally from the 26th of August.
So far, the leaks have been quite positive about the performance of the new RTX cards, which are based on the new Ampere architecture. It was rumored that Nvidia will be using the TMSC’S 7nm process to manufacture the new line of cards. But then a report suggested that Nvidia will be going for Samsung’s 8nm process. We will have to wait for some official word to see which one is correct.
As of now, mostly speculated info has been about the RTX 3080 and the 3080Ti. According to an unverified leak, the RTX 3080 is expected to be about 20% faster than the 2080ti. Some leaks of technical specifications of RTX 3080 and the 3080Ti have also surfaced. The leaked specification slide showed 5 variants of the new Ampere (full-fat) lineup in descending order, which means that we will most probably be getting 5 new RTX cards.
The top spec’d card, leaked as the GA103 has a Bus Width of 320-bit. This graphics card will have 20GB of VRAM. Right under this falls the GA104, which has a bus-width of 256-bit and has a total 10GB of VRAM.
The leaks also show that the RTX 3080Ti will have about 700 more Cuda Cores than its predecessor, the 2080Ti. The technical specs from the leaks also confirm that all the new cards will have PCIe gen 4.0 support. There have been some rumors about a supposed RTX 3090 too, but there is no solid information regarding that it the leaks are most probably of a server-grade card.
The leaked information about 3080Ti looks promising, with the card having a fast clock boost of 2.2Ghz out of the box, offering 21 TFlops of raw performance, and 864GB/s memory bandwidth, which is 40% more than the 2080Ti.
The leaked benchmarks named as GA104-300 and the GA104-400, are thought to be of RTX 3070 and 3070Ti respectively. The RTX 3070 is said to have 2,944 CUDA cores along with 8GB of GDDR6 video memory. On the other hand, the RTX 3070 Ti will up the ante to 3,072 CUDA cores and have GDDR6X memory.
As far as pricing is concerned, the rumors are that they won’t be coming cheap. The RTX 2080Ti is currently going for about 1200$ with the cheapest one being the 2060, which starts at 300$. So, we can expect the same prices as the current generation. This will be due to the fact that Nvidia has stopped manufacturing the 2000 series cards to make way for the upcoming GeForce RTX 3000 series.
