Breeding Guide – Pokemon Sword and Shield

Our Pokemon Sword and Shield Breeding Guide details everything that you need to know about breeding Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Where to find Nursery in Pokemon Sword and Shield

You will need to find and have access to a Nursery before you can begin breeding your own Pokemon. Lucky for you, there are two nurseries in the game. You can use both of them at the same time to breed multiple Pokemon. The first nursery is located on Route 5. To get this nursery, simply walk on Route 5 and in between Turffield and Hulbury, you will come to the nursery where a woman will be standing outside it.

The second nursery is also located a little off Route 5 however it comes in Bridge Field. You can use this nursery for breeding in the game as well. You can leave two Pokemon at the first Nursery and two Pokemon here which will give you eggs after some time. Make sure that you come back to pick them up.

How to Breed Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Once you have access to a nursery, simply go to it and interact with the woman standing outside it. She will take in two of your Pokemon and keep them inside the nursery. She will charge you for taking them in so breeding is not free. You need to make sure that you have two same Pokemon but of the opposite genders to make it work.

Give both the male and the female Pokemon to the woman at the nursery and go on your journey. Return back to the Nursery after around 30 minutes and you will have a guaranteed egg to hatch. This is the only process to breed your own Pokemon in the game. Make sure you drop two opposite sex Pokemon of the same breed to maximize your chances of getting an egg.

Hatching the Eggs

Now that you have acquired an egg, you will be required to hatch it. To hatch the eggs, all you need to do is walk around with them. Put the egg in your party and be on your way. Keep walking around until it hatches. You can even use your bike to move around the map until the egg hatches and gives you a Level 1 Pokemon to train. This is the final part of breeding in the game. A normal egg hatches after nearly 18-20 minutes of walking but if the Pokemon is rare like a Ghastly, it might take even longer to hatch so don’t worry. Keep walking and your egg will eventually hatch.
