After what seems like an eternity, Sony has finally revealed the price of its upcoming PS5 consoles, both the digital and the disc edition. In addition to the console prices, we also got a launch date plus the confirmation of game prices increase.
PlayStation 5 officially launches on November 12 and is priced at $499, just as expected and the same pricing as the Xbox Series X. On the other hand, the digital console will be available for 100 bucks less at $399. We also got the confirmation that many were speculating about the increase in game prices. Sony has confirmed that its Worldwide Studios titles will now cost $69.99. This means that titles such as the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls will cost you $20 dollars more on the next-gen console.
The prices, of both the consoles and the games plus the release date was confirmed on the PlayStation Blog post by the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan.
we’re only a couple of months away from launching the next generation of play. Starting on November 12, PS5 will be available in seven key markets: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. The global rollout will continue on November 19 with launches throughout the rest of the world, including Europe, Middle East, South America, Asia and South Africa. PS5 Digital Edition will be available for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399.99 USD/$499 CAD/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99 (MSRP), and PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be available for an RRP of $499.99 USD/$629 CAD/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99 (MSRP)
The PS5 launch date sits just 2 days after the release of Microsoft’s own Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. And while the price difference between the Sony consoles is not as big as what the Series X and Series S share, the disc-less PS5 is no different in performance than the standard PS5, with the only difference that it is a digital-only console.
These newly revealed titles, along with the games we’ve shown previously, represent the best lineup we’ve ever seen in PlayStation history. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, and Demon’s Souls will launch alongside the console. Our own Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from US$49.99 to US$69.99 (RRP) on PS5.
