In this Rad Beginner’s Guide, we will show you how to get up to speed with this new rogue-like game from Doubling Fine Productions. Our guide will highlight all the basics of the game that can help you understand the best way of getting the most out of Rad.

Enemies in Rad may seem simple and straightforward but they have a lot of surprise attacks that can catch you off guard. In addition, your character comes with a limited amount of health which makes the gameplay quite interesting and challenging.

Rad Beginner’s Guide

Below we have detailed everything you need to know when you are just getting started with Rad.

Leave No Stones Unturned

There are a lot of secret items hidden behind boxes and breakable items. Smash these to reveal the items hidden behind them. These will give you a lot of support items like artifacts and health items.

Health is something really scarce in the game, and most of the times will have you searching for more. Make sure you look around every corner and take as many resources you can that may help in the game.

There are also secrets hidden behind breakable walls. Once you break the wall, you can crawl inside to a cave containing useful items.

Kill All Enemies

When exploring the areas, you may want to kill all the enemies, especially considering that it is the best way to get mutations. The Mutations bar at the top of the screen fills up when you defeat enemies. When it is full, your character will mutate.

When you first start the game, your character will be armed with a bat that you can only attack with by swinging it. However, your main focus should be to mutate into a powerful being with various buffs and abilities.

Keep Your Distance

Rad has a lot of enemies that will look harmless at first but can bring out a surprise attack that can take a chunk off from your health. Most of the time, you will be guessing how the enemy is going to attack. This where you should whiff and then fall back to see what the enemy may tend to counter with.

Dodging is very important when trying to avoid heavy attacks, and also gives you time to produce your own counter-attack when the enemy misses. Dodging and then jumping in the air to slam the ground can have an area of effect that deals damage to any enemy nearby. What is good about the slamming attack is that you can do this multiple times and then dodge out of the way immediately. Repeat if you want to take down an enemy that relies on you getting closer to it.

Other mutations will allow you to shoot fireballs or slam yourself on the ground for a fiery explosion. This explosion goes out in all circles and will damage any nearby enemy, and is great to take out multiple enemies to get you out of trouble.

Mix Up Attacks with Combos

The game has many combo attacks that you can pair with depending on your mutation. There is the Toxic Dump that turns your legs into slime. Anywhere you move, you leave behind a trail of slime. This slime is poisonous and will damage any enemy that comes in contact with it. You on the other hand are immune to it.

Level Up

As you progress in the levels of the game, it is best to level up your character to have powerful abilities and combat strength. Leveling up also helps you upgrade your exo mutations.

You can level up in the early stages of the game by becoming a platinum member. This can be done by depositing tapes to upgrade safe and become a platinum member. This will come in very useful in the levels.
