Sony and Microsoft are rivals when it comes to the console wars but the two companies are coming together to work on the future of cloud gaming and AI. Both the companies are working together to work on cloud gaming and AI that is going to be powered by Microsoft Azure.
Both Sony and Microsoft will work together in order to improve Project xCloud and PlayStation Now. The PS5 is supposed to have streaming features and Sony has been looking into game streaming for a while now. It is possible that game streaming from Sony will be powered by Microsoft Azure in the future.
Kenichiro Yoshida, president and CEO of Sony mentioned the following in regards to this collaboration:
Sony is a creative entertainment company with a solid foundation of technology. We collaborate closely with a multitude of content creators that capture the imagination of people around the world, and through our cutting-edge technology, we provide the tools to bring their dreams and vision to reality. PlayStation itself came about through the integration of creativity and technology.
I think that this is great. If both these giants can come together then so can the gaming community that is divided into PS4 users and Xbox users. I am sure that there are people that have both consoles are well. Sony is looking to deliver the best entertainment experience possible and I think that collaborating with Microsoft is a great way of doing that. Microsoft has a lot of resources when it comes to AI and the cloud. Sony could benefit from all this. Yoshida went on to mention the following:
Our mission is to seamlessly evolve this platform as one that continues to deliver the best and most immersive entertainment experiences, together with a cloud environment that ensures the best possible experience, anytime, anywhere. For many years, Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course the two companies have also been competing in some areas. I believe that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.
Sony and Microsoft might be working together to work on cloud gaming and AI but they are still going to be competing against one another when the next-generation of consoles come out.
