Sony Reveals PS VR 2 for PS5, Release Planned for Beyond 2021

PS VR 2

Sony has officially revealed the second-generation of its PS VR headset which will release for PS5 sometime beyond 2021. The official name for this next-gen VR headset has not been announced yet however we are just going to call it PS VR 2 for now. A release window for PS VR 2 is also not yet known however Sony has said that fans should not expect it to come out this year.

The announcement was made on Sony’s official blog where Senior Vice President, Platform Planning & Management at Sony, Hideaki Nishino revealed the details of the new VR headset. Starting with the basics, PS VR 2 will be available exclusively for PS5 and it will offer an even greater sense of presence and immersion to the players. It will feature a brand-new controller which will have features similar to that of the new DualSense controller. It will also have a greater focus on ergonomics.

Apart from a new controller, the new PS VR 2 will also have a single cord to make it easy to install the VR headset and move it around. The original PS VR headset for the PS VR came with two hefty cables that really made it hard to install the setup and then later move it around if you do not have a permanent setup for the VR. This time around, Sony is working on the system so that it comes with a single wire and is much more manageable for everyone to install and use however they want.

PS VR 2 is still in development and according to Hideaki Nishino, there is still a lot of development work to be done on it so which is why it will not release for the PS5 in 2021. We can expect it to drop in 2022 however we can only be sure once Sony gives us an official release date for it.
