System Shock 3

OtherSide has assured fans that System Shock 3 is still in development as the team is working remotely after lockdown from the coronavirus pandemic. This comes after rumors that the development team might have been laid off in February of this year.

Amid the rumors, the marketing and business development VP Walter Somol came forth with a few words regarding the game on its official forum.

We’re all working remotely right now, probably like most of you. Our new concept is coming along nicely and we are really excited about it. We have cool and we think distinctive art style for it and we have that and gameplay coming together in UE4. I know it’s a tease, but I just can’t really say anything about it at this point.

I hope you all are staying safe and healthy in these unfortunate times. Maybe even gaming more than usual, I know I am.

This will not only assure the community and the fans of the System Shock franchise but also hints that the game is still quite in the early stages of development. It also confirms that the game is in the works, even though there are rumors of the development team being laid off.

We first got to see a little teaser of System Shock 3 last year in March at the Games Developer Conference 2019 event. Take a look at the teaser trailer below:

The third title is a long-awaited game in the series, and the trailer shows the return of the game’s most memorable villain SHODAN. She is the murderous AI who has taken control of the doomed space station. System Shock 3’s announcement was a long time coming as the game was the last title, System Shock 2 was released back in 1999. The series started with System Shock that was released for PC back in 1994, where it was notable for featuring first-person shooter mechanics, with RPG elements and atmospheric, sci-fi setting.
