This build guide will show you what skills and augmentations you need, and the best weapons and gear to have in this build.

The Ascent Best Shotgun Build Guide

Below we have detailed the Shotgun Specialist build with the best skills, weapons, armor, and augmentation abilities.

Best Skills

The best skills for this build are mainly in the Motorics attribute. These include skills like Weapon Handling and Aiming, both which are best for your accuracy, reloading and weapon handling.

But before you invest in these skills, you first have to invest in Vital Signs. Considering that in the early stages you will be getting up close with the enemy, you need every bit of extra health you can go with. It is only when your character has leveled up that you should also include Weapon Handling and Aiming, both skills that compliment your attacking playstyle in this build.

As you progress, make sure you can max out the Motorics attribute or Vital Signs in order to have the best this build can offer. If you do find spare skill points later down the line, you can use it on skills that recharge your energy for augmentation abilities. In this case, you can unlock the Body Battery, which will increase your max Energy, giving you more juice to use an ability.

Best Weapons and Armor

The most obvious weapon you need in this build is the Riot Gun shotgun, which will allow you to annihilate enemies up close. Although you might be worried about the small ammo clip size this shotgun has, the weapon deals a lot of damage, enough to wipe out multiple enemies of different types.

For your secondary shotgun weapon, you have two different choices to go for. If you find yourself struggling with the clip size of the Riot Shotgun, you can go for the ES4 Eraser shotgun. This shotgun can quickly be switched after emptying the Riot Gun, continuing your onslaught of shotgun shells.

On the other hand, you can go for the HCF Heat hand cannon, which allows you to deal fire damage and staggering enemies.

The best armor for this build should be the one that compliments your skills and augmentations. This means that going for armor that gives bonuses to Motorics and Biometrics should be your focus in the early stages. The best armor pieces for this build are:

  • E-50 Panaware Sensor Suite
  • F-50 Sledgehead Helmet
  • E-50 Extrapadded Killball Vest
  • D-50 Netslinger Pants

Best Augmentation Abilities

Augmentations are special abilities that work in tandem with your weapon combat. Augmentations are more practical than you might think, giving you more options in your fight against the enemy.

For this build, you need two augmentations which are the Homing MIM and the Hydraulic Slam. These abilities are going to be your best friend as a Shotgun Specialist as they will allow you to take out multiple enemies at once, or allows you to target multiple enemies that might be coming from the other end.

The Homing MIM shoots missiles that attack nearby enemies. The ability is best used when you have multiple enemies coming from different corners, without hindering your focus on the group of enemies you are initially engaged with.

On the other hand, the Hydraulic Slam is the best ability you can have in this build, simply because of how devastating it is and how life-saving it can be. While you might be an insane player with your shotgun, you will find yourself overwhelmed by enemies that come in larger numbers. The Hydraulic Slam will take out multiple enemies at once while knocking others that are out further away.
