Developer HEXWORKS and publisher CI Games have revealed their brand-new title The Lords of the Fallen at Gamescom 2022 Opening Night Live. The Lords of the Fallen is a new dark-fantasy RPG and it is a reboot of the original Lords of the Fallen that was released back in 2014. The game was announced with a three-minute-long cinematic trailer that highlighted the game’s dark fantasy setting and it was narrated by actor Joseph Quinn. Check it out below:
Apart from the trailer, CI Games has also revealed the new title and logo along with the official key art of the game which illustrates the vast world of the game, split between the realm of the living and the dead which is a core gameplay feature. The Lords of the Fallen takes place more than a thousand years after the events of the first game in the franchise. The game introduces an all-new adventure in a vast, connected world that will be five times larger than the original game. It will feature NPC quests, compelling characters, and a rich narrative.
Before starting the game, players will also have to create their very own custom character after which they will tackle the immersive single-player campaign of the title. If they want, they can also invite a friend there to join the game and play the game with an uninterrupted co-op. This is a brand-new feature for the game, and it was present in the first game. Developer HEXWORKS is led by Executive Producer, Saul Gascon (Dead by Daylight, PayDay 2,) and Creative Director, Cezar Virtosu (Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed: Origins).
The studio was formed back in 2020 and since then, it has led a global team of over 75 internal developers and a network of external partners working together to create a new dark world for The Lords of the Fallen. The game will be powered by Unreal Engine 5 and will be designed exclusively for the current-gen consoles and PC. Cezar Virtosu, Creative Director said:
The Lords of the Fallen is the spiritual successor fans of the original title have always wanted. The game is significantly larger, with a vast, interconnected dual world split between the realms of the living and dead, that players can explore alone or with friends. It’s darker and more challenging, with faster soulslike combat, stronger thematic, richer narrative, deeper RPG systems, and more immersive storytelling.
A full gameplay reveal of the title is next in the pipeline and we can expect that to drop at the end of this year. Key features of the game include:
- A vast, interconnected world – over five times larger than the original game
- An expansive RPG experience – a huge roster of NPCs to meet and stories to uncover
- Tactical combat – a fast, fluid, and challenging combat system
- Devastating magic – turn the tide of battle with spells and character buffs
- Uninterrupted online co-op – explore a vast and dark world together
- Define your legend – full character customization and progression
The Lords of the Fallen is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game will not be released on the previous generation of consoles so it means that the game will really push the new hardware to its paces which is a good sign.
