Where to Find
The first thing you need to know is that Metal Ingots and Gold Ingots are found from rocky nodes. These nodes when harvested give you the Metal Ingot or the Gold Ingot, where the latter has fewer chances of appearing.
The best place to find rocky nodes that contain the ingots is in the volcanic biome. This is naturally the place where you can find these rare items that are vital for crafting items in the game. You can further increase your chances of finding more Ingots is if you find a cave in the volcanic biome. This will contain a lot of rocky nodes that you can hit with your pickaxe and obtain the rare ingots.
Having said that, the volcanic biome is far from being a hospitable place. To survive in this hot and molten terrain, you will need Elixir which is obtained by complete the second task given to you by the Mysterious Stranger. Another way you can work around is by training monkey companions and commanding them to retrieve the ingots after you give them a pickaxe.
