Valve is Overhauling the Game Library UI for Steam

Valve Portable Gaming PC

Valve has finally spilled the beans on the new and improved game Library UI design for Steam which was rumored and leaked for a long time. Valve took to the stage during the GDC 2019 and revealed the new UI for the game library design which is much more accessible to the users. This is only a redesign of the library page. Rest of the client will remain the same at this point.

Steam’s redesign was due for a long time and we also got some leaks and rumors about what could be coming in the new design of the client. Valve’s GDC keynote only showed a redesigned Library page which means that Valve is not planning to completely redesign the store at this point. The new library page features bigger thumbnails for the games and allows more categorization options in the sidebar.

Alden Kroll from Valve announced the newly redesigned store and said:

The biggest thing we’re introducing is the Steam library homepage. This provides an opportunity for players to see ‘what else is happening in the games that I play?’

Apart from the main library page, the in-game page for all games have also been completely changed and they provide much more options in an easy to view format. The new format will show update history and livestreams right at the top of the page which more details following them below.

Players can also now search using tags in the library because the tags now carry over to the library page. This will allow players to use features such as advanced search and also store a bunch of similar games in a similar category allowing to easier access to titles and also making the library less cluttered. You can check out the images below to see the new design layouts.

Apart from this, Steam has also added a brand new events page which shows players all the upcoming events for the title. This page will still come inside the Library and in the game’s detailed page so players will not need to check about upcoming events separately. They can do so easily from within the same game page. Simply click on the events tab in the in-game page and you will get to see all incoming events for that title.

Steam still needs a complete overhaul for the Store page as well to make it more easy to use and add more options to the page which will help players to easily get access to their favorite titles. The Library refresh is a good change in our opinion and we hope that these new features will allow gamers to better manage their libraries in the client.
