Microsoft might be going disk-less with the Xbox One Maverick online console but that will not be the case for all the upcoming consoles. Streaming will not take over and nor will digital downloads but the Xbox One Maverick will push digital sales and here we are going to look into everything that we know about the Xbox One Maverick.
Everything You Need To Know About Xbox One Maverick
Digital content has come a long way and people now prefer to consume content online rather than on disks. While the shift has been easier for music and movies, gaming is another matter. While more people are moving towards digital games, the shift is lower as compared to music and movies.
Microsoft has invested a lot of money into hardware and software and spreading awareness about the brand and it might be time for an online console that is disk-less. The idea of an always-online console was what ruined the image of the original Xbox but this is 2019 and things are different.
Only Digital Games
The Xbox One Maverick will not use disks and will only offer digital downloads. This might be an issue for people that have slower internet speeds but as faster internet is becoming available to most parts of the world, downloading digital games has become a lot easier as compared to before.
The upcoming console will rework the Xbox One s and cut costs. This will lead to a lower price for the consumer and it is safe to say that this is one of the most ambitious Xbox products that we have seen till now and people might be ready for it.
While we do not have much information regarding what kind of hardware the Xbox One Maverick will ship with and what it will look like but it is safe to assume that the aesthetics will be similar to the existing Xbox family and that the hardware will be similar to the current Xbox One S.
An important change would be that the Xbox One Maverick will not come with a disk reader and other components might be removed as well. This will reduce the cost of the console and that will encourage people to buy the console. This will be the first console for many people and a lower price will give it a massive benefit in the long run.
Talking about the performance of the disk-less Xbox, it should be able to deliver the same performance as the Xbox One S but at a lower price point and you will be able to run Xbox One and Xbox 360 games on the console.
Encouraging Users To Go Digital With The Xbox One Maverick
As the console is going to be digital only, you must be wondering what you are going to do with all those disks that you have bought. That would be a very important question and luckily Microsoft already has a plan.
Players that have disks will be able to swap them at select retailers for a digital key. This is being dubbed the disc-to-digital program and users that are collectors of sorts can take advantage of the program if they want to move to the digital ecosystem.
There are plenty of people that did not buy games digitally at first but have had a change of heart since then. This program will benefit those people and many others. This program will encourage fans to go digital rather than keep on buying physical disks but it is worth mentioning that Microsoft is not giving up on disks entirely.
We have also heard about a project codenamed Roma. With this feature, consoles will be shipped with services such as Gold and Game Pass pre-loaded. This way the setup time is reduced drastically. This could also be true for bundled games but we have not heard anything around those lines yet so take this information with a grain of salt.
The initiative is rather interesting and I am sure that the fans will appreciate the convenience of being able to buy the console, plug it in and get to gaming without any delays.
Pricing and Release
There is no official information regarding when the Xbox One Maverick will release or how much it will cost. What we can speculate is that the release of the console will lower the price of the Xbox One S. While this will not replace the Xbox One S, it should cost less keeping in mind that it will not have the disk drive. You can expect the price to be lower than $199.
As for the release, rumors would have us believe that the console could release as early as Spring 2019 but it is too early to say for sure. We will keep you updated regarding the matter so stay tuned for more information and news regarding the upcoming Xbox One Maverick.
