Stranger Things and Tron-Inspired 4-Player Co-op Horror Game Terrorbytes Revealed

Terrorbytes

Publisher Over the Moon, known for The Fall and The Last Hero of Nostalgia, and developer Treetop have officially announced their new title Terrorbytes. Terrorbytes is a 4-player co-op comedy horror game that draws inspiration from Tron and Stranger Things. Terrorbytes throws you into a haunted arcade cabinet where you must navigate a twisted virtual world to survive.

In Terrorbytes, four rebellious friends are mysteriously pulled into an old arcade machine, where they are forced to collect energy pellets for “Ms Croak-Man,” a grotesque and terrifying version of a once-heroic arcade character. The game’s premise turns dark, as a sinister virus has flipped everything upside down. You and your friends jump into the game while taking on the role of ghosts—previously the villains—and run for your lives while trying to evade the terrifying Ms Croak-Man.

Cooperation plays a central role in the gameplay, as the players must collect energy pellets that contribute to a shared pool of resources. Every action, from sprinting to using items, depletes energy, so careful management is essential to meet the game’s objectives. You will need to work together, using your energy wisely to unlock upgrades and special items, which can range from practical tools like flashlights and power washers to helpful map-room upgrades that reveal decoys or allow you to broadcast your voices.

The game’s world is filled with a range of nightmarish entities, from skin-walkers to invisible stalkers and pocket-dimension horrors, all designed to keep you on edge. The tension is balanced with humor, making the horror fun and giving you a reason to laugh even as they struggle to survive. John Warner, Founder and Studio Lead at Over the Moon, explained the vision behind Terrorbytes: “We wanted to create something that’s both funny and scary. Being scared with your friends and then laughing about it is a lot of fun, and what better setting than a haunted arcade? The nostalgia of the ’80s lets us blend tension and fun, with four kids breaking into an arcade only to encounter real evil.”
