The 7th Edition of Brazil Independent Games or BIG Festival has finally kicked off at the Homs Club in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is Latin’s America’s largest indie game expo for video game professionals. At the 7th Edition of BIG, the audience will get to see a huge roster of around 300 international and local speakers.
During the event, the speakers will host a number of master classes, keynotes, workshops, game jams, panels and offer different networking opportunities. At this moment, Eliana Russi, Executive Manager of Brazil Games states:
In 8 years, BIG Festival has placed Brazil on the map of international events in this sector. BIG Festival is part of a broader strategy, carried out by the Brazil Games Export Program, a partnership between Apex-Brasil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, and Abragames, the Brazilian Game Companies Association.
BIG Festival 2019 will host 120 international players from 330 registered companies from 24 different countries. At the same time, more than 550 professionals are scheduled to meet, fostering an unparalleled business environment which facilitates the making of new business deals on a global level.
During the BIG Festival 2019, BIG Festival Awards 2019 ceremony will take place on the night of June 28 where some of the best talents in the industry will be recognized and will be given awards. This year, Humble Bundle is also joining hands with Brazil Games for the Humble BIG New Talent Award. Humble Bundle is one of the most influential independent global publishers.
In this award, Latin American studios who have submitted their projects to the BIG Festival 2019 competition will have a chance to win a grand prize of $15,000. Apart from the Humble Bundle, BIG 2019 is also hosting the Nordic Game Discovery Contest. NGDC is a global competition whose mission is to find promising games and bring them to together to fight for the first prize.
Apart from competitions and awards ceremony, BIG 2019 will also host a huge game jam which has been sponsored by Facebook and will grant numerous prizes including Facebook advertising credit or an Oculus VR kit. The game jam will kick off on June 29, Saturday at 10 am local time. Winners of the competition will be announced after 30 hours of intensive work where around 10 teams will be competing with each other.
We also have some of the leading industry specialists heading to BIG 2019 such as the lead designer of Dead Cells Sebastien Benard who will be sharing his insight and experience on creating the 2018’s Best Indie Game of the Year. Apart from him, Zlapped Pontus Mahler, famed professional eSports player, and an expert will also be present at the festival. Zlapped Pontus Mahler is a Swedish professional gamer and will share his experience with the audience of the event.
Summarizing the whole event, BIG 2019 will consist of more than 125 lectures, panel, tutorials and roundtable discussions. More than 330 exhibiting companies and 75 games will be showcased during the event as well.
