The upcoming AMD Ryzen 3800X has been spotted and the CPU seems to come with 16 cores. This is double what the 2000 series had to offer and very impressive indeed. The listing suggests that this is an upcoming product and that the CPU will come with 32 threads.
From the information that we have, it seems that the AMD Ryzen 3800X will have a base clock of 3.9 GHz and will be able to boost to 4.7 GHz. These are pretty high clock speeds keeping in mind that the core count is very high.
Model | Cores/Threads | Base Clock | Boost Clock | TDP |
Ryzen 9 3800X | 16C/32T | 3.9 GHz | 4.7 GHz | 125W |
Ryzen 7 3700X | 12C/24T | 4.2 GHz | 5.0 GHz | 105W |
Ryzen 7 3700 | 12C/24T | 3.8GHz | 4.6GHz | 95W |

Ryzen33300X | 6C/12T | 3.5GHz | 4.3GHz | 65W |
Ryzen33300 | 6C/12T | 3.2GHz | 4.0GHz | 50W |
We know that AMD Threadripper CPUs also come with similar specifications and that they can easily be cooled with air coolers. The same could be the case here as well. The listing also confirms that the AMD Ryzen 3800X will be based on AMD Zen 2 architecture and will be based on the 7nm process.
Other than that, it will support the AMD AM4 socket which means that it can be used on existing high-end motherboards but functionality might be limited. This is something that we will have to wait and see. We know that these CPUs will officially be announced at CES 2019 which is a few days away from now. Everything will be confirmed at the event.
For now, take this information with a grain of salt as this is a leak and the information has not been confirmed by AMD yet. We have no information regarding the pricing or the release of the AMD Ryzen 3800X but it is safe to say that the CPU will compete against the new Core i9 CPUs and that it will be priced around $900.
Intel has been having issues with the 10nm process and we still have no indication regarding when the new chips will be out. Keeping that in mind, AMD is doing pretty well and might get some more market share in 2019.
Let us know what you think about the AMD Ryzen 3800X and whether or not this is something that you would be interested in getting.
