Players who were waiting for Metroid Prime 4 on the Nintendo Switch will not be happy with the news of the game’s development being restarted from scratch by Nintendo. With the help of Retro Aid, who has developed the first three Metroid Games, Nintendo has scrapped the project and starting over.
Metroid Prime 4 is one of the highly anticipated game that was expected to release this year. Unfortunately, that seems far from happening now. With the news of the development being restarted, it seems like the game can take a couple more years to come.
The news was revealed by the senior managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi in a video message talking about the game’s status.
Ever since the announcement, we have not been able to give you an update. Although this is very regrettable, we must let you know that the current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series. We have determined that the current development status of the game is very challenged, and we had to make a difficult decision as a development team.
Takahashi has talked about shifting to a new studio, though it is unclear where the game was being developed in the first place. All the three previous Metroid games were developed by Retro Studios, and it seems like they will be working on Metroid Prime 4.
We have decided to have the producer, Kensuke Tanabe, work in trust and collaboration with the studio that developed the original Metroid Prime series, Retro Studios in the United States, and restart development from the beginning,” Takahashi explained. “We did not make this decision lightly. This change will essentially mean restarting development from the beginning, so the completion of the game will be delayed from our initial internal plan. We strongly recognize that this delay will come as a disappointment to the many fans who have been looking forward to the launch of Metroid Prime 4.
The game was announced at E3 2017 with nothing more than a logo teasing its development. Furthermore, the details were very scarce about the game. However, with this news, fans of Metroid were far from expecting such an announcement for the game.
