EA and Respawn, developer of Titanfall, have released Apex Legends which is their free-to-play battle royale game set in the world of Titanfall. The launch of Apex Legends comes as a surprise as no one was expecting Apex Legends and were rooting towards Titanfall 3.
Apex Legends is a very good battle royale game and sets itself in its own unique place between the competition. It is going directly head on head with Fortnite, PUBG and Blackout. Although it is more like Blackout in many terms, it comes with its own unique twists here and there.
Apex Legends is currently only a squad based game. There are no Duos or Solo in the game. Each player must fight others in teams of three and each player has to choose from eight legends with come with their own unique abilities.
The game enforces team-play and no player can survive on their own in the game because each legend has unique abilities which can benefit team members. Players can choose a squad’s drop point right at the start of the game just like Fortnite.
Since this is a Titanfall spinoff, sadly there are no titans or wall running in the game but one thing is for sure, the gunplay is astounding. Weapons have solid feedback and right after firing your first weapon, the familiar Titanfall gunplay comes into mind which is an excellent thing.
Certain items in Apex Legends can be used for reviving your teammates one time and auto-equipping suitable weapons and items to designated slots saves you the hassle of inventory managing right in the middle of a battle.
Apex Legends also features a Battle Pass system which will allow players to unlock special visual customizations. This is similar to Fortnite however we do not know at this point whether the battle pass will allow players to earn premium in-game currency like Fortnite does with its V-bucks.
The first season of Apex Legends is starting in March so players have plenty of time to explore the game and get acquainted with different mechanics of the game before jumping in the first season next month after purchasing the Battle Pass.
