Microsoft Studios has made a small change on Tuesday, as it will now be called Xbox Game Studio. The developer issued a statement written by Corporate Vice President Matt Booty.
This name change is apparently going to increase the brand power of Xbox to expand it beyond consoles. Under Xbox Game Studios are 13 development teams that include 343 Industries, Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, The Coalition, The Initiative, InXile Entertainment, Minecraft, Playground Games, Turn 10 Studios, Undead Labs, Microsoft’s Global Publishing group.
At Xbox, we believe when everyone plays, we all win. It’s why we’re passionate about building a portfolio of games for players across console, PC and mobile. As we’ve expanded our focus beyond the console, the Xbox brand has also evolved from its original roots. Today, Xbox is our gaming brand across all devices, no matter how or where you want to play, or who you want to play with. In that spirit, I’m pleased to share that we are changing the name of our game development organization from Microsoft Studios to Xbox Game Studios.
We’re also excited to see how the seven new game development studios we added to our team last year maximize their creative potential as part of Xbox Game Studios. As a gaming organization, we have never been in a better position to deliver a diverse line-up of exclusive games for Xbox fans now, and in the future.
In the end, Booty also highlighted its big upcoming title such as Gears 5, Crackdown 3, Ori and the Will of the Wisps that will all be coming on the Xbox One and PC. He also added that the teams are working on big content updates for titles like Forza Horizon 4, Sea of Thieves and Minecraft.
With Xbox Game Studio, the first game we will get to see with the new banner is Crackdown 3, which is launching in a couple of weeks on 15 February.
