Warhorse Studio who is the developer of the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance has been acquired by THQ Nordic. All intellectual property rights of the game are included in the acquisition.
The deal was made for around $37.6 million, and is exactly an year after the game was launched by Warhorse Studios. Since then the game has sold 2 million copes across all platforms.
A joint statement by both the CEO of THQ Nordic Lars Wingefors and CEO of Warhorse Studios Martin Fryvalsky announced the acquisition. According to THQ, Warhorse will continue to work independently under Koch Media, while the founders Martin Klima and Daniel Vavra, plus the CEO Martin Fryvalsky will be maintaining their existing roles.
“Becoming part of THQ Nordic family is an important milestone for our studio,” CEO of Warhorse Martin Fryvalsky said. “We began as a small start-up with a handful of employees who were enthusiastic enough to join this challenging project. The skills of our team members, trust and support of our main investor and passion of our fans, who supported development of Kingdom Come: Deliverance through a Kickstarter campaign, helped us grow to an international level. We believe that backing by THQ Nordic will give us an extra push in our mission to bring exciting games to our customers and extend the frontiers of the gaming industry.”
Meanwhile Lars Wingefors of THQ also added in,
Warhorse Studios is one of the leading independent studios in Europe and I am proud to welcome them to the THQ Nordic group. Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which has now sold over two million copies, has been a great success since the release exactly one year ago. I look forward to continue working with the founders who will continue managing the studio under strong creative freedom for many years to come.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance was released back in February of 2018 and it was met with very positive reviews and became an immediate success. The game sol 1 million copies in its first week, while the next million came in the span of the rest of the year.
