Xbox Boss Phil Spencer has assured fans by saying that Microsoft will ‘go big’ at E3 2019. His statement comes after Google revealed its brand new cloud-based gaming platform during GDC 2019. Google made a lot of noise with Stadia during GDC and could be the biggest announcement of 2019 so far however Phil says E3 is going to be big.
This news comes from Thurrott who obtained an email by Phil Spencer who responded to Stadia by saying that there were no surprises in Google’s announcement. He was still impressed by YouTube and Google Assistant integration as well as the WiFi controller which will come out for Stadia.
According to the email, Phil still does not consider Google’s entry in the market as a big threat. At this point, Microsoft could be the biggest competitor to Google as Microsoft is already gaining traction in the cloud-based gaming with their Xbox Game Pass and Project xCLoud which will launch soon.
More details on Project xCloud will be released in June most probably during Microsoft’s E3 presentation. For the time being Microsoft is not too much threatened by Google’s entry in the video game industry with Stadia. Phil states:
Google went big today and we have a couple of months until E3 when we will go big. We have to stay agile and continue to build with our customer at the center. We have the content, community, cloud team and strategy, and as I’ve been saying for a while, it’s all about execution. This is even more true today.
Microsoft is currently focusing a lot of its Xbox Game Pass service. New titles are being added to the service very frequently. Microsoft looks very serious in the cloud-based gaming as well because it is also planning to release a disc-less Xbox soon which will surely push its place in the disc-free video gaming segment.
Microsoft will most probably release more details on its cloud-based streaming service xCloud in the coming days or at E3 2019 because according to Phil Spencer, Microsoft plans to go big at E3 so we can look forward to the event for some major announcements.
