Slightly Mad Studios Withdraw Mad Box Trademark for their Console

Mad Box Trademark

Slightly Mad Studios has withdrawn its trademark filing for Mad Box as the name for their announced console. Slightly Mad Studios is the developer behind Project Cars and earlier this year they announced a brand new console which was to be named Mad Box but now it seems the developer will need a new name for its console.

The withdrawal comes after a French casual games firm called Madbox filed an opposition to the trademark who argued that there “exists a likelihood of confusion on the part of the public.” This was reported by PCGamesInsider.biz. According to the report, Slightly Mad Studios withdrew the application for the trademark on April 5.

The original application for the trademark was filed with EUIPO which is the European IP organization on January 3, 2019. At this point, it is not known whether the withdrawal is because of the French casual games firm or some other reason but it seems that the console will now get a new name for its release.

The console was revealed by the company’s CEO and founder Ian Bell back in January 2019. According to the initial reveal, Mad Box is a VR-ready, 4K with 60 FPS console. The console will deliver 60 FPS per eye which will result in the ultimate gaming experience when it comes to smoothness. These were relatively impressive stats for a company who has no experience with hardware.

The console is planned for release after three years and not much details are known about the console at this point. However, we do know that the console will now need a new name because it will not be called Mad Box anymore. It will face directly with the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Scarlett which means that the console will need some serious hardware juice along with an equally strong lineup of titles to attract players.

Earlier we got to know that the design of Slightly Mad Studios’ console is far from perfect and some additional details about the console as well.

What do you think will be the new name of Mad Box now that they have withdrawn the original trademark? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
