It looks like Ubisoft has long term plans for Rainbow Six Siege and it will come out on PS5 and next Xbox as well and at this point, the developer has also not thought about a sequel for the game as well. This was revealed by Rainbow Six brand director Alexandre Remy while speaking with Daily Star during the Pro League Season IX Finals.
Remy said that Ubisoft has no plans for bringing out a sequel for Rainbow Six Siege at this point and the game will be supported by next-generation of consoles as well which includes PS5 and the next Xbox. Players will be able to migrate over to playing the game on their newer systems without losing any of their progress.
He said:
The reason behind this is we don’t want to segregate our community between the different platforms. In an ideal world tomorrow, we’d love players from every platform to be able to play together. We are approaching next-gen with the same spirit. We have to make every effort possible that when next gen comes in, they are treated as a high-end PC versus another PC.
This could mean that if Rainbow Six Siege is indeed coming to next-gen consoles as well, it will be more visually enhanced, the game AI will be smarter and the game will be even more optimized than the current versions. PS5 will come with Backwards Compatibility but we do not know how game developers will use it to their advantage at this point if titles are coming out on both generations.
Rainbow Six Siege was released back in 2015 and while it felt empty and shallow during its early days, Ubisoft has massively improved the game with continuous updates and content seasons. At this point, Rainbow Six Siege is in its fourth year and a brand new season Operation Phantom Sight is also on its way.
