Jelle Van Doorne, a video game developer from the Netherlands, has announced his brand new game Viola and it is coming to Steam Early Access next month. Viola is essentially a platformer combined with Strategic and Narrative elements from the age of classic JRPGs. It brings a brand new twist to the genre as it combines these mechanics with music to deliver a world of music.
In Viola, players will play as a young girl called Viola who is trapped inside the fantasy world of a magic violin. Players will follow her journey as she travels the fantasy world and makes new friends along the way. Viola must unlock the mystery of a fantastical musical world as she engages in turn-based combat.
The combat is combined with the platforming mechanics and players will engage in a large number of battles throughout the game. She will be supported by a large number of characters who will gladly join her side in these battles. The battles in the game are not passive but rather active as players will be required to tap the buttons to land their attacks.
During these battles, these button taps will also allow Viola to unleash different spells that follow a series of rhythm game-esque inputs. Apart from exploration and combat, Viola can also team up with her friends to play music together. As players progress in the game, they will unlock more songs and characters. Playing these songs and using different characters to play songs will unlock different passages and secrets throughout the world of Viola.
Viola is starting its journey as an Early Access title on Steam next month. With Early Access starting in July 2019, the full release of the game is planned for 2020. At this point, only a Steam version of the game is confirmed. You can follow the developer and the official website of the game to follow the development for the title.
