We heard last year at E3 that Microsoft is working on a pair of next-generation consoles rather than a single one. We heard plenty of rumors about Xbox Lockhart that would be a cheaper console compared to Scarlett but it was not announced at E3 2019. Now we are hearing about a streaming-only console that Microsoft might be working on.
Even though word has it that Xbox Lockhart has been canceled that does not mean that Microsoft cannot release a streaming-only console to cater to people that do not want to spend a lot of money to play games.
Reports would have us believe that the mainstream console was canceled because developers did not want to optimize their games for two consoles. Not to mention games would be held back due to the lower-end hardware. This could be good news for people that are interested in buying the Xbox Scarlett.
The streaming-only Microsoft console will be much cheaper and will be used to stream games via Project xCloud. This could be similar to Google Stadia but it is worth mentioning that Microsoft has a lot of content and a massive library of games as compared to Google.
The free version of Google Stadia is not coming out this year and if you are interested in checking out the service as soon as possible then you will need to get the Founder’s Edition.
It will be interesting to see whether or not people are going to adopt streaming. People do like owning games that they play and internet latency is going to play a major role when it comes to streaming games as well.
Xbox Scarlett is going to release in the Fall of 2020. You can expect to hear about the streaming console before that. If the rumors are true.
Let us know what you think about Microsoft working on a streaming-only console and whether or not you are interested in getting one.
