Destiny 2 Shadowkeep expansion has been delayed. This is the first time that content for the Destiny 2 franchise has ever been delayed. Interestingly, it has been delayed at a time when Bungie is no longer with Activision. This could mean that this time Bungie had more control and opted to take its time rather than pushed unfinished content.
Free-to-play Destiny 2: New Light. has also been delayed. The devs mentioned that they need more time to make sure that things are in order and I think that the fans can respect that decision. I for one would like to wait for Bungie to finish what they are doing rather than play a game that has broken mechanics that do not work properly.
Destiny 2 Shadowkeep expansion and Destiny 2: New Light will be available on October 1st. You will be able to migrate your account to Steam on the same day. Cross-save features will also be enabled. Here is what the devs had to say regarding the matter:
As we get closer and closer to serving up Shadowkeep and New Light, it has become increasingly clear to us that our releases for this Fall would benefit from a bit more time in the oven. Being independent means that the future of Destiny 2 is entirely on our team. It also means that we’re agile enough to choose to do what’s best for the game and our players, even if it’s the hard choice.
Bungie should take advantage of its independence. I am sure that the fans will respect that. To compensate for the delay, there will be 2 Iron Banner events. Moments of Triumph is also being extended.
Solstice of Heroes remains unchanged and will end on August 27th. The expansion has only been delayed for 2 weeks, so that is not a lot of time. The devs went on to mention the following about the delay:
We didn’t make this decision lightly. We know for some of you (us too), Destiny releases are events where you take time off of work or develop a sudden sickness that keeps you from school or work (we get it, a bunch of our team takes some time off to go on their own Destiny Jacket Quest). We’re sorry for screwing up your plans and we wanted to share this information as quickly as we could.
This is also the first time that the raid is going to release on a Saturday. Players will have some time to level up gear and get specific weapons. Some would argue that the race to world’s first is not going to be the same. It will be interesting to see what the community has to say regarding the matter.
Destiny 2 Shadowkeep expansion will be available on Google Stadia as well and is actually free with the service.
Let us know what you think about Destiny 2 Shadowkeep expansion being delayed and whether or not you are interested in checking it out when it launches on October 1st.
