Whenever we hear the name Marvel’s Spider-Man a whole lot of web-swinging tales come into our minds be it those epic comic books, some great and not-so-great video games, and the oh movies, especially the perfect Sam Raimi trilogy alongside a bunch of other spidey stuff too. Of course over the years there have been many great depictions of the friendly neighborhood superhero that we all admire out of all those some are absolutely great which we all love. Recently, we had a new entry to the Spidey scene. Marvel’s Spider-Man is a video game exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
Today I’m going to tell exactly why it was perfect and one of the greatest Spider-man depictions ever!
Fighting the still life, crimes, and supervillains
Spider-man’s story is very rich, deep, and full of life with a lot going on. Of course many times it has been done all over again by countless people but only some have been able to perfect and insomniac games are one of them. In the game (Marvel’s Spider-Man) the story is brilliantly put together covering all of Spidey’s life.
We have Peter Parker who’s now an experienced hero (so we don’t go over the beginning again) who’s surely caught up in problems of his own apart from super stuff like getting late on rent, being short on cash, struggling with his love life and keeping up with the lovely aunt and then on the other side he swings across the state fighting crime, mob bosses and bad folks bringing justice to the people but that’s just the thick outline of all. What’s beautifully done here is how they’ve given importance to every aspect of the game’s story!
The Love of his life
Mary Jane is one big highlighted character along with others who has quite a role here, Peter and her conversations are full of emotion and life and are it any of their conversions throughout your story mode it all sounds natural and oh so good that you literally feel for them.
There’s weight in what they say no cliches or generic narration with the relationship of these two. Mary Jane’s part of efforts shown and phased intense situations make it all so good The fact that you get to be her in an epic spider tale is just great!
Miles and May
Aunt May…how do I even say all of this? If there was that one time when Peter’s and May’s relationship was shown with super detail and depth on your screens was back in the Sam Raimi films, after all that time the same level of narration has returned with this game and the way their conversations take place and how the affection and care is all expressed between the two is just lovely. May’s passing away was one of the strongest/most emotional moments in gaming history and it all was phased and built perfectly.
Those Who Want The Spider Dead
When life throws hardships on you they can be anything and by anything I mean losing your apartment, a girlfriend, or worst of all having your close ones turn on you so bad that they literally want you gone. With Villains that have such buildups, it is so engaging that through and through it keeps you on the edge of your seats.
We have classic Doc Oc who once a great guy slowly loses his sanity and comes for you in an absolutely shocking way alongside Scorpion, Shocker, Rhino, and Mr. Negative who are excellently done villains of the game. The writing is so neat here that you start to think about all the reasons they have for their wrongdoings.
Beating all of them felt extremely satisfying and seeing Spider-Man go all out was hands down the absolute best. It defined the term, Super Hero! Getting the antagonists done as well as the protagonist was a sight to see. Insomniac nailed the story right outta the park.
The fun doesn’t end at the story mode
Once you’ve finished the main story there a many side missions and again in this aspect once again the game goes miles away from being repetitive, generic, or boring as you have many different types of side missions be it helping individuals including stopping an impostor Spiderman, get the bombs, help cops by besting up mobs of bad guys and there’s more to all of this.
Doing the side missions puts in the paths of many iconic characters from comic books like Tombstone, Black Cat, Taskmaster, and more. Then there’s tons of material to collect be it bag packs or the tokens you get to spend upgrading Spidey or buying those flashy suits! Man, those were super awesome!
Be Greater
Lastly and most importantly let’s talk about how insomniac games perfected the gameplay of Marvel’s Spider-Man. Hands down the greatest gameplay we’ve seen in a Spidey game. With web-swinging so fluid, smooth, and in the flow that you can spend hours just going around (still won’t be bored) to the flashy combat it’s all so point.
With additional new elements placed like gadgets and abilities that help you take down enemies literally all of them serve a purpose and come in handy! The fast-paced combat where Spidey throws his hard signature strikes and somehow keeps the enemy alive, webbing them to building tops and edges, evading attacks in style, and using his environment while he’s at it. WOW! You could tell how much time went into designing all of it because it’s one of the finest game plays we’ve had in our gaming lives!
Spider-Man, Sony and Insomniac Won!
With an amazing in-depth dig inside the world of both Spider-Man and Peter Parker, amazing importance is given to many side characters and villains done right along with a world so alive and plenty to do. This is the ultimate video game that has done justice to our beloved superhero Spider-Man!
