Cross-Play on PS4, which was in Beta mode until now, has completed its beta phase and is now available to all developers as a complete feature. With the feature now available to everyone, we can start expecting cross-play arriving in more titles in the future. The next title to support cross-play appears to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare because Activision and Infinity Ward have already announced that cross-play is coming to the title.
This news comes not from Sony but from Wired who published an article announcing that the PS4 cross-play feature is now available to all developers as it is now out of its beta. In their article, SIE CEO Jim Ryan detailed to Wired that this is a necessary step to ensure that PlayStation and its features are at the top to survive the next generation.
During its beta phase, players were able to try out an extremely small number of titles which included Rocket League and Fortnite. Both the games were supporting cross-play for a long time and it was working without any problems. There are also many more games on this list as well which you will find below.
The current titles supporting cross-play on PS4 include(Thanks: IGN):
- Fortnite (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, Mobile)
- Dauntless (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
- SMITE (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
- Rocket League (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
- Paladins (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
- Realm Royale (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC) {October}
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (PS4, Xbox One, PC) {October 25, 2019}
- DC Universe Online (PS4, PC)
- Disc Jam (PS4, PC)
- EVE: Valkyrie (PS4, PC)
- Final Fantasy XIV (PS4, PC)
- Street Fighter V (PS4, PC)
- Ultimate Chicken Horse (PS4, PC)
With cross-play now available to all developers, we can look forward to seeing this list expanding at a much faster rate. Until now, we have seen that most free-to-play titles supported online cross-play but pretty soon we will see some AAA titles supporting cross-play as well. The next generation of consoles is going to play an important role in expanding cross-play even more.
