Mike Ybarra, Former Xbox Exec, Is Joining Blizzard Next Month

Mike Ybarra Blizzard

Mike Ybarra left Xbox 2 weeks ago and he just announced that he is joining Blizzard Entertainment as Executive President and GM from November 4, 2019. Mike Ybarra made this announcement via his Twitter account where he also mentioned that he will be present at this year’s Blizzcon as well.

Mike Ybarra has been working with Xbox for nearly 20 years and he was the Xbox Vice President when he left the company. Ybarra has been with Microsoft since 2000 and it was only in 2009 when he was moved to Xbox Live as a General Manager. In 2017, he became Corporate Vice President of Gaming. He has a proven track record of success with Microsoft however Blizzard is currently heading down itself.

Ever since Blizzard announced the Diablo mobile game during last month’s Blizzcon, Blizzard has been amid different controversies with the most recent one being the Hearthstone Grandmaster Blitzchung and Blizzard’s treatment towards the situation.

We also remember that Mike Morhaime, co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, left the company back in October 2018 who had been part of the company for 27 years. Having such senior management leave the company does not really bode well for the future of the company and by looking at the blunders Blizzard keeps making, we are not sure about whether Mike Ybarra’s timing to join the company is a good one.

We all know that Mike Ybarra is one of the key people behind the Xbox brand and has worked really hard to make it better and we’ve seen the fruit of his hard work as well. Maybe Mike Ybarra is the person that Blizzard really needs at this point to get their ship sailing in the right direction. We look forward to Ybarra taking charge of Blizzard and hoping to see the company return to its formal glory once again under his reign.
