In a recent blog post by BioWare’s general manager Casey Hudson, the studio plans to reinvent and redesign the Anthem to bring out the full potential of the experience. The studio is going to d just that and will work on bringing out the changes over the coming months.
Hudson goes on to say that it will be more than just an update, but it is highly unlikely that it will be a complete overhaul of the game. Hudson goes on to explain that BioWare has heard the feedback from the players saying that Anthem needs a more satisfying loot experience, a better long-term progression, and a more fulfilling end game.
So we recognize that there’s still more fundamental work to be done to bring out the full potential of the experience, and it will require a more substantial reinvention than an update or expansion. Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting.
To work on the redesigning, they will have a focused team that will have plenty of them to test and iterate on the gameplay. Hudson also states that this is something that they should have done more the first time around and that they intend to do it properly.
For the time being, Anthem will be running the same version of the game but will move away from full seasons while the team works towards the future of Anthem.
We’ll keep the game going with events, store refreshes, and revisiting past seasonal and cataclysm content – starting with our anniversary towards the end of the month.
Time will tell how BioWare intends to bring Anthem back to life. There is no denying that Anthem has had a bad post-launch period since February. When BioWare finally released its much-delayed Cataclysm back in August of last year, it was also not received as well as the team would have hoped. Right from its launch in February, many players reported various gameplay issues. BioWare and the team behind Anthem worked on fixing the game ever since. The team delayed any future content and changed their goals after release which angered the fans even more.
