Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo Running on PS5 Looks Brilliant

Epic Games has officially revealed a working tech demo of Unreal Engine 5 which is running on PS5 and it looks amazing. The announcement of this specific tech demo was earlier teased by Geoff Keighley who marked this announcement as one of the more important moments this summer. The newly released tech demo is running on Sony’s upcoming console PS5 and it introduces some of the latest technologies it is packing.

The tech demo dubbed ‘Lumen in the Land of Nanite’ is being presented by Technical Director of Graphics Brian Karis and Special Projects Art Director Jerome Platteaux who digs down deep and introduces us to the brand new features that are coming with Unreal Engine 5. Along with the brand new features, it also comes packed with all features of Unreal Engine 4.25 which includes Niagra VFX improvements, Chaos physics and destruction, animation system enhancements, and audio enhancements.

Unreal Engine 4.25 also supports the next-gen consoles including both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 as announced previously. Coming back to Unreal Engine 5, the two most-highlighted features of the engine include Lumen and Nanite. Lumen is a fully global illumination system that immediately reacts to changing scenes and offers truly dynamic lighting.

On the other hand, Nanite virtualized micropolygon geometry frees artists to create as much geometric detail as possible as the eye can see and it can be imported into the engine from outside sources as well without any hassle. This will allow video game artists to create insane geometric detail with very few boundaries and limitations. Both of these features will join the already hugely available list of features already available in the Unreal Engine to deliver one of the most robust engines for game development.
