New Rhythm FPS Metal: Hellsinger Announced by Funcom

Metal: Hellsinger

Funcom has revealed their brand new rhythm shooter game Metal: Hellsinger developed by David Goldfarb and The Outsiders. This brand new metal game is seeking to be the best metal game and is currently slated for a PC release whereas a next-gen console release is also planned on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.

In Metal: Hellsinger, you will be shooting demons and devils while banging your head to metal music. Your ability to shoot on the beat will increase your power and intensify the music. The game will feature an original soundtrack with vocals from metal icons such as Matt Heafy from Trivium and Alissa White-Gluz form Arch Enemy. Metal: Hellsinger is aiming to innovate both the rhythm and FPS genre with layered music.

As you play the game, each level will have its own song and each song will have multiple layers. Your performance will impact how many layers of the song will be played at a single time. The music will start with atmospheric background music and end with powerful metal anthems based on your performance in levels. Funcom Chief Creative Officer Joel Bylos explains the game as:

This gives the player an incentive to stay on beat because the experience becomes so intense and so powerful that you want to keep it that way. I knew that Dave and The Outsiders know how to make shooters, but I have never seen anything done quite like this before. It’s a very ambitious project and one we are proud to be a part of.

The Outsiders Creative Director David Goldfarb, ex-Lead Designer on Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 along with ex-Gamer Director on PayDay 2 further adds:

We want to make this the most metal game ever. Or get as far as we possibly could, anyway! To make something that felt like a tribute to the epic imagination and joy and fury of metal – not just in terms of music, but art style, characters, lore. Trying to do it has been an amazing joy and we can’t wait to get it into the world for people to play.

Metal: Hellsinger is slated for release on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021. The next-gen versions will be optimized for next-gen consoles and will feature improved visuals, 120fps, and drastically reduced load times.
