Nintendo just held a Pokemon Present and during the stream, it announced a brand new game Pokemon Unite. Pokemon Unite is a real-time team-based battle game or in other words, a MOBA published by Tencent. This is the very first Pokemon game to be developed with this type of gameplay and mechanics.
Nintendo did not share too many details about Pokemon Unite at this point but we do know that Pokemon Unite is being developed because the main goal of the developer was to create a cooperative game with plenty of depth and a game that will have a massive replayability factor. It seems like Pokemon Unite is taking the direction of Dota 2 with its concept.
In the game, two teams of five Pokemon on each side duke it out with each other. Both teams will try to defeat the opposing team. One team plays on the left side of the map while the other team plays on the right side of the map with major clashes taking place in the middle of the map. There are five scoring areas on each side of the map and the teams score by capturing while Pokemon found on the map.
At the end of the game, the team with the most points will win the game. During the game, Pokemon will increase in level and will eventually evolve when you reach a certain level. Keep on leveling up and you will eventually unlock a Unite move exclusive to that Pokemon. Each Pokemon in the game will come with its own unique Unite move with unique effects that will allow you to gain an edge in the game.
However, as unique as the concept behind the new game sounds, the fans are not happy about the reveal of the game. At the time of publishing this article, the trailer has over 18K dislikes and less than 4K likes. In the comments, fans are mostly saying that they were looking forward to more Pokemon classics coming back to life as Remasters or Remakes and this is something that no one wanted to have. It is certainly a new concept and it appears to have appealed to very few of the fans.
Pokemon Unite will be free-to-start on mobile devices and Nintendo Switch.
