F1 2020 MyTeam Guide

This F1 2020 MyTeam Guide will show you how to get started with this new game mode introduced for the first time in the game. The new game mode is like a new career mode which not only allows you to become a team driver, but also the team owner.

MyTeam allows you to own an F1 team and manage it from the vehicle, its development, and the various departments of the team.

F1 2020 MyTeam Guide

Below we have detailed everything you need to know as a beginner in MyTeam mode.

Getting Started

Managing an F1 team is no easy task, but the game explains the basics pretty well right from the start. The first thing you require to do is to build the team from the ground up. Starting with your race car and its color theme, your team logo, and your character. Your character avatar can be the same as the one you have chosen from the starting of the game or create a different one depending on your choice.

Choosing a Sponsor

The second step in building your team is to choose a primary sponsor. Sponsors offer you an upfront signing bonus and weekly cash inflows with a set amount. In return, sponsors require you to reach certain goals during the championship season.

Sponsor deals vary with each sponsor and its contract offers. While you may be interested in the huge signing bonus, you will have a tougher task to reach the goals set by the sponsors. If you prefer to play the game in a more challenging setting, you should focus more on the goals you can reach, rather than the huge signing bonus and weekly cash inflows a sponsor is offering.

Some sponsors don’t have difficult goals, but give you less money in the long run. This can affect the speed of your team development and your race car as well. However, if you choose a team with higher signing bonus, you will have enough money to spend on a better power unit or a competitive teammate.

Choosing a Power Unit

Power Unit or the car engine is the most important and major component of a Formula 1 car. Just like in real life, the game has four major engine suppliers which are:

  • Honda
  • Renault
  • Mercedes
  • Ferrari

Power Units are differentiated with their performance and durability, depending the engine suppliers. Ferrari and Mercedes power units give you excellent performance and durability, but at the cost of 4.1 million and 3.4 million respectively.

The cheaper options are Renault and then Honda. Both engine suppliers are really good in performance and can challenge both Ferrari and Mercedes if you have the other upgrades to compliment the power unit. However, the biggest issue can be durability. The lower the durability of a Power Unit, the more you will find yourself losing performance and swapping for new Power Units.

You can only have a set amount of power units in a single season, which means that the more engines you lose, the closer you are of getting a penalty when you exceed the limit of power units for the season.

Second Driver / Teammate

This is the easiest step in building your team, and it requires you to choose the second driver for your team. Every team on the grid has two racing drivers competing for points. There are various things you can look for when choosing the right type of driver for your team.

Drivers are differentiated with their overall rating, their experience, race skill, awareness, speed or pace, and overall stats. Every driver option has a variable number for each skill. All of this comes down to what you are looking for in your teammate. It is not necessary to just pick the best rating driver as they may cost extra to sign them up.

R&D Facilities

The game now offers you facilities for the development of your race car and the development of the team. This gives you another level of experience as an owner by having control of everything that goes in the development of your entire team including the vehicle.

Facilities allow you to research and develop your vehicle in the entire season. Depending on the major components of your vehicle like the power unit, chassis, and aerodynamics, you will have to make certain decisions to upgrade your vehicle with the best options available as the season progresses.

Each major component facility has 5 factors that can affect development. From fabrication, which allows the facility to develop multiple parts simultaneously, to building time. Facilities also have quality control which the component durability depends on quite heavily, and the resource point generator, which allows you to gain more points to spend on the R&D tree.

Depending on the power unit that you have, you might have to spend any performance upgrades, and have enough to spend on durability. This can have a major effect later on in the season with you have a more reliable engine for the season.

On the other hand, aerodynamics can significantly increase the performance of your vehicle on the tracks. Developing your vehicle aerodynamics can help you gain top speed and corner speed, thus giving you a clear advantage over other teams.
